Default Medway DC By-Election 8th May

There is only one local government by-election this week and it is for Medway DC, for the Rochester South & Horsted Ward.

The candidates are Con, Lab, LibDem, Green and BNP.

Default UKIP

No chance of UKIP winning it this time then.

This will be an interesting local ward By-Election since it is the first vote since last week's local/London elections and it takes place in a Parliamentary constituency which is marginal. Political analysts will be looking to see how far ahead of Labour the Conservatives remain and how the other parties perform.

Result

Con 1847
Lab 819
LDem 767
BNP 257
Grn 104

Tories Hold, with modestly increased vote. UKIP and the Medway Independents fought this seat in 2007.

A quick analysis shows that UKIP polled roughly the same percentage as the BNP did on a comparative basis.

That must have been devastating news for the local BNP members.

On the contrary the result was what was expected, and the BNP gained publicity and some new members out of the campaign. In addition a number of UKIP voters switched to the BNP in the absence of UKIP standing this time.

Why not post those results of your so called quick analysis Vortex and let us all take a look at what you yourself have obviously seen?

Or,post a link so we can all go there and view them, purely in the interests of bnp openness of course.

Default Tory has his prayers answered

Page 18 Medway messenger Friday 16th May.

TREVOR Clarke, a regular contributor to our Churches Together in Medway column, had his prayers answered when he won the Rochester South and Horsted by-election last week.
He polled 1847 votes -nearly half of those cast- to take the seat for the Tories. No surprise, really considering how much the country seems to hate Gordon Brown and Labour at the moment.
More interesting is the performance of the British National Party's candidate, Brian Ravenscroft. He polled more than twice as many votes as the Green Party candidate, more than a third Lib Dems' vote and nearly a third of the labour vote.
The BNP's far right policies seem to be tapping into concerns about immigration policies - a message our "mainstream" politicians can't afford to ignore.

This was in the David Jones: Between the Lines last Friday's Medway Messenger
