I copy below my latest Telegraph blog entry. But, before you skim read it, please let me make the point that IMHO the most likely way to have England (perhaps then followed by the other home nations) leave the EU, is to revive the English Parliament.
Copy blog entry from today now follows, and I hope that as many members of this forum as possible will take up the recommendations made: Some two hundred and more of our fellow citizens have already registered with the English Claim of Right website by midday. I draw your attention to these two points to follow-up: 1. How to sign the Claim After you have registered on the site, we will send you automatically an email to your personal account for you to confirm your registration. Once you have clicked on the confirmation, you should then please go back to the site to sign "The English Claim of Right" itself. You do not have to put a comment, but most do so, and they often give wonderful feedback and are very inspiring. Thank you. 2. Our English Constitutional Revolution When you have got familiar with the site, you can then think about trying to extend its influence by seeking others to sign. These might be your entire email list of contacts - why not try it and see what response you get? I also think it is vital that all existing elected political represenatives in England (whether MPs, MEPs, Councillors, Mayors and candidates for those offices) are asked if they would please sign The English Claim of Right. It is really much better if you only contact those who represent you and your constituency (rather than just writing a job lot of letters or emails to all and sundry). Now these elected politicians and officials are busy folks and they tend to be sent on a daily basis sometimes quite angry demands from this group, or that group. So, as always in politics (and in life generally...), in your request to the MP etc why not try to build rapport, and appeal courteously to their better nature. If you want to know more about the arguments about why we should want to have an English Parliament, try the website of the "Campaign for an English Parliament" (the CEP). I asume that you are serious about this English Claim of Right. So believe me when I say that if, we, the majority of the people of England get behind and support the Claim, we will re-gain our English Parliament. So let's make our St George's Day wish the objective of getting H M Government to agree to expedite an English Constitutional Convention by 23 April 2009, and then to help set up our revived English Parliament by 23 April 2010. And if you feel like scoffing, saying that this British government would never permit an English Parliament, let alone help bring it back into existence, consider these two points; (i) It was a Republican Party President (Abe Lincoln) who abolished slavery in America, so great politicians can and do transcend party and other interests. (ii) If Prime Minister Gordon Brown meets England half way on this, by this one act he will be remembered forever by England as a great statesmen, and he may well have created an enduring basis for good relations between England and Scotland hereafter. So if we want to have our very civilised English Constitutional Revolution, please all get emailing and writing those reasoned letters to our political representatives who hold office based on constituencies in England. Thanks very much.
