I have no idea where Roman Bank & Peckover is but Mr Clapp did receive a creditable vote against Con & LD opposition in Wisbech South in 2005. Presuming that he does not live in RB&P I would not expect such a large vote share in 2008 but I would be disappointed if UKIP get below something like 5% here. The tories can't lose here even if they try, in my opinion.
Welwyn Hatfield sadly didn't have any UKIP council candidates in 2007 or 2006 so I don't suppose there will be any in 2008. |

Excellent work. A solid result.
Does UKIP have any history in the ward/area for comparison? Any comments on what led to the result? (more canvassing, leaflets etc; people liking the message; more local publicity; good candidate; etc). Would be nice ot analyse it and attempt to find the strengths of the campaign. |

All in all, this highly encouraging result is a product of what passionate, enthusiastic UKIP members can achieve if they spend their time going out there in an organised, professional manner instead of using their energy to moan. |

But will UKIP branches learn from the success of such candidates?
What was the campaign like? What was the leaflet(s) like? What local campaigning had been done before? Where there is success - the tactics and campaign strategy of that success must be shared amongst the branches - otherwise more pathetic results from papers candidates with no campaign! |
