Thanks for highlighting those. In fact both are delayed elections from May not by-elections. I think the North Somerset candidate is the same as initially intended. Somewhat unusual is that there are 2 UKIP candidates in Broxtowe. Unusual because there was only 1 UIKP candidate throughout the whole of Broxtowe in the May elections! Broxtowe appear to have hidden their ward results so uniquely amongst English councils I don't currently know how the UKIP candidate performed there. The BNP gained a seat so that might or might not explain the councils reluctance to provide such basic information on their website. I note there are no BNP candidates for that ward which might be a bit of an error on their part.
Good luck to all three UKIP candidates. |

Its called tactics mate, maybe this is the plan for UKIPs Leadership from now on.
Keeping us on the fringe of politics so to speak. Remaining in contact with the main parties and all that stuff. Just waiting to pounce when the political scene is ready for it,thats the latest UKIP Leadership strategy. |

North Somerset. This result is a pity. With one UKIP candidate there was a possibility of vote splitting, but the three main parties maintained good share for their respective candidates.
It also shows the electorate has little understanding of the difference between the Independent (on 157) and UKIP (on 154). So I don't suppose UKIP had much chance to start with there! This all goes to confirm much of what is said on this forum. That the electorate sees UKIP as a European election party, but not much good for anything else. |

It surprised me that the Greens don't do better now, with all the envirofascism being rammed down our throats.
Then again it's who counts the votes that matters really, isn't it.

Well, I'm not so sure. At the last General Election, Labour got only 20% of the total electorate's support. Then came the other two main parties. The largest group was the abstentionists.
I think at least half the electorate are just plain fed up with politicians. Now if UKIP and some other like-minded parties could get a handle on this lot, then the momentum will be gathering some significant speed. It seems the art in politics today is branding (much as I would like to think otherwise!) and content. If the content is too full of spin, lies, and ill-thoughtout policies, then the abstentionists keep winning! |
