    2.2% for UKIP?

Fourth place though, so nothing terribly embarrassing, and considerably ahead of the rest.

Good grief, the Lib Dem candidate was sooooo dull in her speech. She even had the nerve to attack the Conservative party saying that she couldn't sense any support for them. Duh! What a sore loser.

UKIP has done much better in by-elections in the past. They are always tough fights. This is a poor result for UKIP.

Tamsin Dunwoody just tried to claim that Labour held their vote and that the 17% swing was due to secret Tory voters that they weren't expecting.... WTF. So much for the down-to-earth candidate....

Default UKIP, Crewe-Nantwich, Parliamentary By-Election, Veritas, Cheadle, pro-EU withdrawal

UKIP did better in this Parliamentary By-Election (held yesterday at Crewe-Nantwich) than Veritas did at the By-Election in Summer 2005 held at Cheadle - which is near to Crewe (there was no UKIP candidate in the Cheadle By-Election and anti-EU Veritas was the only pro-EU withdrawal party putting up a candidate).

The UKIP percentage share of the vote at Crewe-Nantwich yesterday was about four times the vote that Veritas got at Cheadle:

Default UKIP, Crewe-Nantwich, General Election, europhile Liberal 'Democrats', By-Election

UKIP did not contest the Crewe-Nantwich at the last General Election - so many will say getting almost a thousand votes yesterday was a good result for the party - especially when one considers that most of the other small parties standing in the Crewe-Nantwich By-Election did not get anywhere near that number of votes.

Here is the result in Crewe-Nantwich last time - notice that the europhile Liberal 'Democrats' got over 18% of the vote in 2005 and that yesterday in the Crewe-Nantwich Parliamentary By-Election this fell to 14% :
