Default Crewe and Nantwich by-election, 2008 - Students Favour Tories

SOUTH Cheshire College has been a hive of activity today in the run-up to Thursday's Crewe and Nantwich by-election.

Conservative candidate Edward Timpson and Shadow Secretary for Innovation, Universities and Skills David Willetts both visited the college as part of their ongoing campaign.

The pair staged a question and answer session in the College's Dane Bank Theatre for staff and students keen to know more about the Conservative party policies.

David Roberts, who is standing for the English Democrats, also dropped in to chat to potential voters and hand out promotional literature.

Political parties are targeting first-time voters ahead of the by-election.

South Cheshire College has also staged its own mini poll to try and gauge who students will be voting for later this week.

At close of play today, the two main political parties were locked in a tight battle for supremacy with 13% of voters opting for Tamsin Dunwoody and 20% in favour of Edward Timpson.

Mini election results also show that out of the remaining candidates, students are voting massively in favour of the Cut Tax on Petrol and Diesel candidate Paul Thorogood which may be a reflection of the high fuel prices in South Cheshire compared to some other parts of the country.

David Roberts said: "It was wonderful to be able to come into a top college and chat to students about what I'm standing for in the by-election.

"These students are tomorrow's future and it's important that they make their vote count this week."
