• IPCC chief refuses to apologize for glacier error

The chief of the UN climate change panel, Dr. Rajendra Pachauri, admitted on Wednesday that a mistake in a 2007 report had raised questions about the body's credibility, in an interview with The Guardian.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's (IPCC) landmark Fourth Assessment Report in 2007 said the probability of glaciers in the Himalayas "disappearing by the year 2035 and perhaps sooner is very high."

There is no evidence the claim was published in a peer-reviewed journal, thus calling into question its credibility.

He refused to apologize in the interview with The Guardian for the unverified claim. "I think this (glacier) mistake has certainly cost us dear, there's no question about it," Pachauri told the newspaper. "Everybody thought that what the IPCC brought out was the gold standard and nothing could go wrong. “You can't expect me to be personally responsible for every word in a 3,000 page report," he said.
The IPCC issued a statement expressing regret for the mistake, but Pachauri said, "I don't do too many populist things, that's why I'm so unpopular with a certain section of society," defending his refusal for an apology.

As a body that is advising goverments on their environmental policies I think that the least one could expect is "the gold standard" and nothing less. The stakes are too high. And as head of the body, yes I do expect him to take personal responsibility. If not him, then who?

He should be kicked out for being the head of IPCC when he allowed false claims to be made - the way the organisation is run is his ultimate responsibility

From what i hear, it was not even a mistake on his part, he knew full it was wrong before he declared it, the man no longer has any credibility what so ever and neither does the IPCC unless it admits it guilt and alters the way information is gathered in future.

Not only does this reflect on the IPCC, it reflects on the EU organisation as a whole, this sad little tale destroys the derisory amount of credibility the EU dictatorship had to start with. The EU has to take names and kick aris, to TRY to regain a we bit of cred, which it badly needs.

If it had not been for India, who chased this deliberate fraud, from start to finish, this story would probably never have come to light, we Europeans owe India a big one.

India has criticised the UN panel on climate change saying its grim warning about melting Himalayan glaciers was not based on\"scientific evidence\".

In 2007, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) said the chances of \"Himalayan glaciers\" disappearing by 2035 and perhaps sooner is very high\".

But this projection has since been questioned and on Monday the IPCC chief said the panel would review the figure.

Indian environment Minister Jairam Ramesh called for an explanation.

He said that the IPCC must account for how it reached the 2035 figure.

      'Vindicated'

\"The IPCC claim that glaciers will vanish by 2035 was not based on an iota of scientific evidence, the Hindustan Times newspaper quoted Mr Ramesh as saying.

\"The IPCC has to do a lot of answering on how it reached the 2035 figure, which created such a scare.\"

Mr Ramesh said he felt \"vindicated\" after repeatedly challenging the IPCC's work on glaciers.

He said there was no\"conclusive scientific evidence\" linking global warming to the melting of glaciers.

India forms new climate change body
The Indian government has established its own body to monitor the effects of global warming because it “cannot rely” on the United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the group headed by its own leading scientist Dr R.K Pachauri
Here you go, this is how much India rates the Fraudulent IPCC, they rate it so highly, they have started their own climate change organisation, so in future if you want the facts on climate change, look to India and not the EU.

So much for that fraudulent EU, this is what Blair and Brown have reduced Britain to, a fraudulent undemocratic, capitalist mockery and to such a degree, that third world countries are having to spend their cash on gathering their own info, making it more credible the corrupt EU, IPCC.

Clearly then, if we take the positives from this debacle, any information sheet issued by the EU IPCC in future, is not a total waste of tax payers money, but rather a free supply of toilet paper.

Reciprocation, Screw the EU, because they are Screwing you.

If the IPCC brings out a report, then yes the person in charge of the IPCC is responsible for every word in it.
