You can hardly blame Ann she is one of the few figures at Westminister who actually says what she means, I dont always agree with her but I am sorry a pro-Life MP is retiring, for supporters of the pro life cause we have all too few representatives at Westminister now.

I am very sorry, too, that Mrs. Anne Widdecombe is retiring from the House of Commons. I know people who wanted her to be leader of the Conservative Party.

Her work in campaigning against the horror that is abortion is appreciated by everyone right across the pro-life movement.

She deserves a place in the House of Lords.

And I am sure she will write articles when she is no longer in the Commons. So, hopefully, we will hear much more from her in the years to come.

'Tony' Benn is still in the media even though he left the House of Commons a few years ago.

There are too few interesting people with something real to say in politics - Mrs. Widdecombe is one of those interesting political figures and the public like her because she is not an 'oily' or 'slippery' politician like many are in this Labour regime we have to put up with at this time.

She would also have been a nother good candidate for speaker if we can ever get rid of the ghastly Mr Martin.

A very good point RJT. I had not thought of that - but Mrs. Widdecombe would be the ideal candidate for the job of Commons Speaker.

I think all sides of The House would have full confidence in her fairness of approach as Speaker.

The media like reporting about Mrs. Widdecombe and if she were Commons Speaker her role would encourage more interest in House of Commons proceedings and in the political affairs of the land in general.

Sadly, now she is quitting the Commons, this great opportunity will be missed.

A call for the present House of Commons Speaker to go:

"The Speaker has to go" - new call for "Gorbals Mick" to quit

I may be a mere newcomer and I'll bow to your obvious political knowledge, but are we talking about dark haired little Miss Catholic?

Or sod it I failed , I'll go blonde and write sex books and appear on TV?

She has about as much credibility as the rest of them

She didn't do anything to get Britain out of the EU.

Thus she is a cow and a traitor.
