Default Europhile Livingstone only 1% ahead in new poll on voting for next London election

Europhile leftist ‘Ken’ Fibingstone, the UKIP-hating Labour Mayor of London, is just 1% ahead of Boris Johnson MP, Conservative candidate for the May 2008 Mayoral elections in the capital according to a new YouGov opinion poll. Voting takes place in just 150 days.

Details of the poll for the ITV 1 programme ‘London Tonight’ (shown only in the capital) were published yesterday.

YouGov says 45% of those questioned in the capital intend to vote for Labour Mayor of London ‘Ken’ Livingstone in the May 2008 Mayoral election in the capital – with 44% opting for Boris Johnson MP.

The Mayoral candidate for the pro-EU and pro-euro Liberal Dim Party is stuck on a humiliatingly low projected vote share of a meagre 7% - this despite the fact that the Liberal Dims have just picked a new leader and would normally be getting a boost in the opinion polls.

Livingstone should have stayed as an Independant, he lost support at the last election in 2004 and this poll suggests such a trend is continuing, the Lib Dems seem to be suffering the traditional third party squeeze here.

I think it may be a case of he is not Livingstone and he is the best placed candidate to beat Livingstone.

To me it just looks like another charade of good cop, bad cop.

Unless he comes out with some proposals on rolling back the damage Red Ken has done, I don't see the point in voting for the puppet on the right hand, rather than the left.

Boris will make an excellent Mayor - as long as you don't actually live in London!

Let's hope the squeeze continues. I want the committed europhile Livingstone out and the Conservatives (who, as you point out RJT, are the only party who can actually defeat Labour Mayor Fibingstone in the second round of voting in the May 2008 London Mayoral election) need second preference votes from Liberal 'Democrat' voters to do it.

Livingstone is and always was bad news for the capital.

Conservative candidate for the London Mayoralty Boris Johnson MP has already wisely called for the return of the Routemaster bus (double-decker with entry/exit platform at the back) - a bus hugely popular with Londoners and tourists alike. Europhile Livingstone used the excuse of an EU safety directive to get rid of them despite having promised not to do such a thing. The replacement for the Routemaster is the unpopular 'bendy-bus' (long two-section single deckers) - made on the european continent and very continental-looking.

They are not considered safe (some have caught fire) and a car crashed into one the other day (at Charlton in south-east London) resulting in the dreadful loss of three lives.
