A South London Tory MP has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting his wife, a Conservative party spokesman confirmed.
Andrew Pelling, 48, MP for Croydon Central, was held at his home in south London on Tuesday after police received a complaint from his wife Lucy. Mr Pelling was released on bail later that night after being questioned. The father-of-three, who is also a London Assembly member, won the Croydon Central seat in 2005. He was not available for comment. A Metropolitan Police statement said: "A man in his 40s was arrested on September 18 at an address in south London in connection with allegations of assault. "He was taken to a south London police station and was bailed to return on 1 October. The alleged victim is a female in her 20s." The Conservative party spokesman confirmed details of the arrest but refused to comment further. |
