Default Cameron is the most anti-EU Tory leader ever says Labour MP

David Cameron is the most anti-'european' Conservative leader ever according to Ed Balls MP, the 'number two' at the Treasury and a man who was regarded as eurosceptic (until now).

News that David Cameron is the most eurosceptic Conservative leader so far will surprise members of the anti-EU UK Independence Party (a party David Cameron called "extreme" in a radio interview on 4.4.2006) - and the claim may be ridiculed by the 9 Conservative MP's in the 'Better off out of the EU' group who have all been told that they will not get into the Shadow Cabinet (or, eventually, Government) as long as they remain opposed to the UK being run by the EU.

Is Balls making these pro-EU remarks because he is after a constituency where the selection committee is europhile (his seat of Normanton in the north of England has just been abolished in boundary changes)?

Playing the same old game of good cop, bad cop.

Ed Balls is almost as slimy as Cameron. I take the opposite of what he says to be true.

Other way round, i think. Balls by name Balls by results!

It is Ed Balls that has been helping the Chancellor devise stealth taxes, raiding or failing to fund pensions, and encouraging an economy to be based on credit rather than income!

South Sea Bubble #2 coming by! :tumble:

Appropriate name, Balls, because he talks B*llocks!

Also quite apt that he has been shafted, losing his seat.

I think Ed Balls was probably either drunk or stoned when he made that statement

Default Labour on the europhile extreme

What the remarks of 'Ed' Balls show is just how far to the europhile extreme Labour has gone since the anti-EU Michael Foot quit as Labour Party leader in 1983.

Do Labour really believe that David Cameron is the most anti-EU Conservative leader ever?

I can only assume that 'Ed' Balls is not aware of the following facts:

David Cameron verbally attacked UKIP on 4.4.2006 in a radio interview.
David Cameron has banned anti-EU Conservative MPs from the Shadow Cabinet.
David Cameron dropped the commitment (backed by the previous three Conservative leaders) to get the UK out of the hugely damaging EU Common Fisheries Policy.
David Cameron broke his promise to take the Conservatives out of the pro-euro EPP group in the EU 'Parliament' "within months not years".

On the basis of what this 'Ed' Balls says, Labour is now so europhile it believes that almost everyone is anti-EU (including some other europhiles).
