Default Conservative Party Conference

Did anyone notice in one of the crowded "fringe meetings" the speaker said "We have to have tax cuts" and he then went on to say that the money could be released "by leaving the EU". He got a tremdous applaud.

It was shown briefly on Sky News.

What is it with the Tory "establishment" that they cannot see that their rank and file want to leave the EU so much?

I am sure that if they took up this policy, they would win back nearly all the floating voters and even many from Labour, and yes, a few of the Liberal Democrats even.

UKIP and my own party, Veritas, would probably collapse as well as a great majority of those have only taken an interest in politics because they want to leave the EU as soon as possible.

Who was it who said "There are non so blind as those who cannot see"?

Until their supporters stop propping them up, they never will do what the country needs. i.e. leave the EU.

The Tory leadership know full well that the majority of their party AND Britain now want out of the EU.

The Lib Dems and Labout also know this, yet this in this one area, NONE of them are willing to even give a referendum on the issue.

Sorry, but that makes me deeply suspicous of the whole system. When not one "major" party is willing to give a policy option that a huge amount of people would support, then the smell of stich up hangs in the air.

The more I see the more I think democracy is this country is a farce. A puppet show, just to make the people feel they are free.

Default Conservative tactic of chasing Liberal Dim votes won't work

The Conservatives can't win a majority of seats in a General Election without the eurosceptic and anti-EU vote. The strategy of their present leadership is to chase Liberal 'Democrat' votes - thinking that such support can replace the 'core' anti-EU section of the party (who happen to do most of the ground work). This tactic will not work. David Cameron going on about being a "liberal Conservative" and talking about 'green' issues non-stop will just add credibility to the europhile Liberal 'Democrats' and to the leftist Greens. It will fortify their support and add nothing to Conservative electoral prospects.

People like 'Ken' Clarke, Heseltine and Patten and other europhile political failures in the Conservative Party probably want the Conservatives to do a deal with the Liberal Dims after the next General Election (if there is no majority) - certainly they would prefer a link up with their europhile friends in the Liberal Dim party rather than go into coalition with the anti-EU DUP (of Dr. Paisley) or UKIP (if UKIP had one seat or more in the Commons).

As it happens, it is (in my view) most unlikely that the Liberal Dims will support a Conservative minority Government - even if David Cameron spends the next 2.5 years talking about being a 'liberal Conservative'.

There is no way back to Government for the Conservatives as long as they snub the eurosceptic and anti-EU majority in their own party and in the country as a whole. If UKIP won a seat or more in Parliament (the Commons) the Conservatives may only be able to get back into power with an electoral agreement with UKIP. Thanks to Major, the Conservatives have lost members to UKIP and those people are mostly unlikely to return to re-join (the Conservatives).

This is very encouraging, especially as UKIP has been getting heard more of late.

Wait for the Conservative body swerve on the EU approaching the General Election. If it comes too early one of the other two could even follow.

Unlikely to deliver whatever the 'swerve' is and could end up with an own goal. After of course having conned the electorate, again.

Norman Tebbit said it. I was in the hall at the time.

I later stood up and asked when the 'Cameron must go' campaign was going to start.
