Default Cameron on Straw's veil request & the congestion charge

On Frost Tonight he said & I'm paraphrasing this: 'If someone in a veil came to my constituency surgery I don't think I'd ask them to remove their veil'. The man is so out of touch with Britain 2006 it is breathtaking.

He was also totally evasive on whether he supports the congestion charge. He says that is a matter for the next tory mayoral candidate and tories on the London Assembly. What happens if they disagree with each other I wonder. No leadership from the leader on a key issue for 100s of thousands of Londoners.

He has also apparently learnt a lot from Chris Patten. :x

I didn't catch the whole show so there are probably more gems available.

Sounds like an opportunity to me.

Muslims have been wearing veils in this country for decades - why the sudden hostility?

Would you ask a jew to take off their skull cap, or a seick to take of their turban?

It's not the same. Neither the skullcap nor the turban obscure the face, and humans rely on facial communication because they're primates.

Only around 5% of muslims wear the Niqab, the full face covering. I would have thought that it would be a non-issue in Cameron's constituency whereas Jack Straw's been MP for Blackburn for 27 years. Cameron should shut his flappy trap.

I have lived in Cameron's constituency for over 11 years and have never, ever seen a Muslim woman wearing a veil in West Oxfordshire. We are 98%+ white hereabouts, as Cameron well knows, and most of our ethnic minorities are small businessmen, professional classes or ex-servicemen or married to the same. DC knows that no Muslim woman will turn up at his surgery wearing a veil so it's a good answer from his point of view.

Ironically Jack Straw, MP for Blackburn, lives in the village of Minster Lovell in the Witney constituency.
