I'm sure you're right, in fact I think he'll achieve his aim and turn out to be an even bigger control freak than Blair!
The Cameron-led Conservatives are 1% ahead in the polls (ICM Sunday Mirror, 1.10.2006) now - as compared to Labour, who (even when led by the fool Kinnock) were 10% ahead of the Conservatives (at the same 'stage in the electoral cycle/parliamentary term as regards the 1992 election as we are now at as regards the next General Election - 2009/10).

Kernow (above) mentions the Conservative core vote. The simple fact is that without it, the Conservative Party cannot win a General Election - because it is bigger than any extra votes that David Cameron thinks he can win over.

Quite apart from the fact that - according to 'experts' - under present and new electoral boundaries the Conservatives actually need to be up to 10% ahead of the Labour Party at the next General Election to have the chance of an overall majority of 1 in the Commons. I may dispute the 10% figures (as possibly being a bit high) but I do not doubt that a 1% lead for the Conservatives in the opinion polls is not enough for the party to win the next General Election.

I notice that UKIP have gone up to 4% (according to one poll out last week). It seems it is picking up votes from Labour, the Conservatives and from the europhile Liberal Dims.
