No, not you hunter but Lathyrus up there.

As for the BNP crowd, they kept breaking several forum rules including rules on where to post (we even gave them a section at one point but they continued to promote the BNP all over the forum) and so they were banned.

As for numbers, yes, there are only a few of them but they register so many additional accounts....

Sadly Frith, no claim can be made that our system of democracy is perfect. However, the illusion of democracy is what allows people to sleep easy at night. Whether or not a person believes in that illusion doesn't detract from their right to reap the benfits of it. If it is the decision of the majority of members of this forum that the members and sympathisers of a political Party whom they disagree with should be banned, then that is their right, and the moderators should go along with the wishes of the majority.

However, should such be the case, then it should only be right that the name of the forum be changed to reflect the fact that it is only a democratic forum for certain people, not everyone.

Fair enough..

I wasn't aware that there were no-go areas for posting. I haven't posted anything in the UKIP section (at least I don't think I have. If I did it was for clarification nothing else...) but only out of respect that the UKIP members wouldn't want me barging in with ideas contrary to their policies.

It's a forum rule not to promote the BNP. We didn't have this rule at first but it got ridiculous and most members of the forum were not/mildly interested in the BNP.

Your respect for UKIP members and the UKIP section is great and most appreciated. Sadly many internet activists for the BNP lack such respect.

To clarify, BNP supporters are not banned because they are supporters of the BNP, they only get banned if they cause a nuisance.

No argument from me on this. I've moderated a forum before and know how out of hand some folk can get. ANY persistent trouble makers should be banned if they ignore the warnings.

The last paragraph of your post outlines democracy perfectly. All socialist dictatorships claim to be practising democracy and often have the words "democratic", "people's" or "republic" in their names. Congo, apartheid South Africa, China, the former Soviet bloc etc. All people's groups practicing serious oppression against the people. Even the state of Israel claims to be democratic. As Shakespeare remarked through the lips of Juliet: "What's in a name?"

And this is it.

I didn't intend to start a thread that see ideological and dogmatic discussions about democracy and then be called a 'raving lefty'?! (If the BNP is so democratic why are their forums closed to everyone, and yet this 'anti-democratic' forum is open to all?)

Nor did I even call for banning supporters of the BNP!

All I drew attention to was the fact that several BNP related threads had mushroomed, and I was wondering if we could have a thread to discuss how best to deal with this?

I am just saying that as a member that was around at the start of the first 'troubles', (and no offence but some members have not been around longer than a few months) I was just airing caution that we could see a similar problem.

Basically BNP members appeared everywhere, unfortunately using foul language, starting scores of BNP threads, threatening others and when a BNP Only Thread was set-up it had about 500 posts in a few weeks and then had an over-spill into other threads.

Now, as then, I never called for a banning of BNP supporters if they simply BNP supporters, just for a set policy on where the issue stands - it will be a good thing for both them as well as other members.

Actually, 22ANDUK, you came along around the start of the second set of troubles IIRC.

We had some in 2005.
