What has eminem and the movie -One Mile- have to do with this immigration thread? Mountaineer is turning my thread into a movie trailer. This is movie number 3?

8 mile
The 8 Mile of the title is the name of a road in Detroit that marks a figurative and literal boundary between the haves and have-nots. Eminem plays Jimmy Smith, Jr., aka "Rabbit" as his family and friends call him, who is definitely one of the have-nots. He is a struggling rap artist, who bounces around from job to job in hopes of earning enough money for studio time to record his demos, but in the meantime lives with his mother (Basinger, Bless the Child) and young sister (Greenfield, Project 313) in a trailer, the epitome of the "white trash" existence. He is an angry young lad, but his best friends know he is the most talented as far as skillz among them, that is when he isn't on stage choking from fear of the spotlight. As he struggles to earn the respect of his peers, life on the streets always threatens to consume him, from rival crews and gun-toting thugs, and happiness is something that seems to forever elude him. Survival of the fittest, or phattest as it were, with everyone around struggling to claw their way to air time and the ability to pull themselves out of ghetto existence.

Looked yesterday - no issues, its kinda on-topic, particularly the first one as it responds to a comment by the silver falcon.

Deliberate spamming of films would not be acceptable, but these are in context with the issues being discussed.

Actually c_Steam, the entire South Africa sub-discussion is off topic, and I, admittedly, played a part in that. The topic of the immigration thread is related to attitudes towards immigration in Britain and Ireland. I have so much respect for Silver Falcon's essays, that I didn't make an issue of it.

But I did post this in the thread a few days ago:

Quote:
Esteemed Staff,

I think these South Africa essays of Silver Falcon's deserve their own thread. Such quality shouldn't be lost among the generalities of this particular threads subject matter.

Perhaps under the heading: Twilight of the Afrikaaner.

I find it curious that you didn't feel it worth your time to repond until after another member made a post. If I were paranoid I might take that personally. If I were paranoid.

The South Africa sub-discussion has become so intertwined with the main topic, it would be difficult to seperate the two at this point. So, c'est la vie.

I'm off to post a youtube video of the hip hop classic 'New Jack City' in a UKIP Forum category and see what response it gets.

Default Apologies

Brendan Scarborough

Apologies for spamming, the reason for the films was to point out the similarities between different countries and overlapping problems that are global. The first film Tsotsi highlights a community, in South Africa, Kidulthood in England and 8 mile in the USA. As the poll was about immigration I thought that I was contributing to the discussion, as immigration is about movement of people, from one neighbourhood to another. I used films rather than books as reference to these topics because I believed it’s a valuable and popular format.

The reason I didn’t respond to the complaint straight away was that I was unaware that I had ruined the discussion. As you are probably aware by now that I am an uneducated Millwall supporter.

I was going to add my favourites: Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch. Good job I kept my beak shut.

Could it be that i'm not 'here' for much more than 30 minutes a day? No!

Please don't be paranoid, they're only out to get you.

And once they've had you you can always reinvent yourself - in the spirit of recycling.
