phpBB seems to be particularly vulnerable to this problem, I have the same problem with a couple of other sites I help out with.

Is there any association between the fake members and the recent spam attacks? Can the fake members and/or spam attacks be stopped any time soon?
I wouldn't mind spending some of my own time deleting the obvious fake/spam members if Anthony or somebody else were happy for me to do so. (I have no wish to be a moderator BTW). Please don't feel obliged to respond/PM this - it is just a friendly offer!

It's getting worse of late. Spambots easily get around the security of this site.

I want the number entering thing, which robots can't get around implementing.

The spam attacks are made by sad lonely people, who have nothing better to do with their lives, so they look for other peoples lives to attack.

A bit like a parasite in a way, we should pity them more than anything else.

We have the "number entering thing". The spam is from real people signing up.

Doesn't work. Otherwise all of the migrating birds who congregate on overhead powerlines would be fried. Ditto not possible for trolls.
