If you take a graphic of the flag the correct way up and put it upside down (i.e. rotate along the horizontal axis), you end up with the graphic used at the head of this forum.

Flying the union flag upside down is sign of distress.

We're in distress. Else we wouldn't be here at this forum.

Oh dear dear Mr Carter ---- have a look at the exmples above. If that does not answer your question please find a Union Flag tomorrow and have a good look at it !

Go take that flag you have. Keep the hoist side left. Now turn the bloody thing upside down. What do you see? Is the wide white to the top of the flag or the bottom?

JC has a good point though. The UK is in distress and this could be a great way of showing it, even if it was a mistake to start with.

Depends if the flag pole is on the left or right of the flag - if its on the right then the flag at the top of the page is correct.

However, like everyone else I would assume that the pole is on the Left - we'll just have to wait for the wind to change direction.
