How to make a county disappear: The Duchy of Cornwall
Well I don’t have the exact formula but if you study this website from the Duchy of Cornwall Human Rights Association you’ll be able to see exactly the constitutional loops the establishment and Duchy authority have jumped through to turn Cornwall, an extraterritorial crown possession legally separate from England, into a supposed English county. This site explains how a British territorial possession became someone’s private estate. It makes great and fairly easy reading and should be studied by all those interested in the UK constitution. For more details of the Duchy scam you can listen to the person behind the Duchy of Cornwall Human Rights Association, John Angarrack, in interview on BBC radio Cornwall talking about his new book here: MySpace.com - Graham Hart - UK - Rock / Pop - www.myspace.com/thecornwellian |

What happened in Cornwall was simply what happened to so much of the old English constitution. It got swallowed and rode roughshod over by the legislative absolutism of the Westminister house of commons in the period after the civil war and particularly 1688.
Cornwall is constitutionally much like the pay d'etat in the old french constitution like Provence where the King of France was legally simply the Count of Provence. It is seperate and a palatinate duchy.

In case you hadn't noticed, nothing is above Parliamentary Sovereignty.

Unfortunately that is true and is one big reason why the American's wanted to have their freedom. They realised such absolutism at Westminister was contrary to our ancient constitution and liberties. It must stop.

At least Cornwall still is a county.
What has happened to: The Royal County of Berkshire? Westmorland? Huntingdonshire? Cumberland? Middlesex? And what of the state of these administrative counties, all much reduced in size these days: Lancashire? Somerset? Lincolnshire? Warwickshire? CountyWatch - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia BBC NEWS | England | Lancashire | County signs dumped after protest Association of British Counties - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia BBC NEWS | England | Lancashire | Boundary protest 'to be reported' Oxfordshire - CountyWatch Fresh proof that the vigilance occasioned by the war on terror is bringing useful domestic benefits. Consider the case of CountyWatch, ne'er-do-wells who menace officialdom by moving boundary signs and restoring them to their pre-1974 positions. More than 60 county signs have been tampered with and we think a clampdown is long overdue. Luckily the police agree. After masterminding a daring raid to remove 34 "Welcome to Lancashire" signs, Tony Bennett, the CountyWatch secretary, recently spent an hour and a half being questioned by Blackburn police. The terms of the interview were arranged with the chief superintendent. The police are taking no chances on this one - the eyes of the world are upon them. But only bad news emerged from the interview, for Mr Bennett insisted the law is on his side and promised more signpost chaos in the New Year. Having plotted with Count Nikolai Tolstoy, who has campaigned for the part of Oxfordshire where he lives to return to Berkshire, the CountyWatch troops are heading south. Inevitably, as the inquiry widens, the police will want to probe the group's fundraising methods, and we can help with that one. Having obtained a tape of the police interview, CountyWatch is selling copies for £2 a time [Hugh Muir, Guardian, 2005] --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Last edited by Tony Bennett; 29-05-2008 at 10:02 PM. |

And Northumbria, unfortunately, does not want autonomy, whereas Cornish people do. Many may not feel themselves quite as sepereate as the Welsh or Scottish but we feel far more seperate than a Yorkishman and Kentishman. And that is really what matters not ancient constitutional differences and is why we should have autonomy.

Of course Cornwall should be a separate country, but not a part of the UK or England.
If it becomes independent of the UK,Cornwall will be on its own and unable to claim financial support from anyone any more. Considering how poor Cornwall is now and its constant high unemployment record, what have they got to lose? Like the other two candidates for UK independence,Wales and Scotchland, they will have problems in the future, entering and exiting their countries I reckon. |

The local mentality of spending hours each day in the pub is a losers ideal and a socialists idea of paradise.
Cornwall, like other counties, needs leaders to bring in businesses, not yarn tellers sat at every bar, year in,year out,as is the general case down there still. |
