Default Gordon Brown

Gordon Brown
by Francis Beckett
What sort of a man is Gordon Brown? What kind of Prime Minister will he make? Can he stem the growing unpopularity of the Labour Party and win it a fourth term in office? This book, written in the first three months of the year in which Brown becomes Prime Minister, is both a biography and an assessment. Francis Beckett interviewed several of Brown's closest political collaborators, and had a background briefing from Brown himself. He says the popular image of Brown is entirely wrong: he found an amusing, erudite and charming man who will bring his own style to 10 Downing Street - not Tony Blair's style, but at least as stylish. He believes that a Brown premiership will mark a fundamental break with the Blair years: a new and different relationship with the USA, a broader foreign policy which is able to look beyond the Middle East, a new and more transparent way of reaching decisions. In a groundbreaking final chapter, he draws on the best evidence available to predict what Gordon Brown will do with his new job

regarding you quote ''a new and different relationship with the USA'',

I am glad about this bit of him, the USA are the worst terrorists and the Brown govt. have been trying to get guantanamo bay shut, got 3 out of 4 people out of there before Christmas but I am still waiting for the ''dreams of Britain to come to fruition'' and hope this was not just oratory! and hot air! I was pleased when one of the princes spoke out about our relationship with them being in a trough. I hope it won't be out of the trough until Bush stops his evil ways. He is already planning on expanding torture because he does not like the torture tactics being banned in the Army manual and wants to remove the bans. It is no use him pretending to have a ''war on terror'' when in reality it is war to achieve his Nazi agenda of controlling the globe.

''new and more transparent way of reaching decisions''- this would be nice. The EU sent me some questionnaire last week about seal hunting and their interactive policy making is a good tool.

I'd rather peel my eyeballs than read a book on Brown.

My only question would be: are the pages soft, strong and absorbent?

After the books done the rounds at Labour HQ and the offices of the Gaurdian it will be more of a question of why are the pages stuck together?

You know how you used to get religious organizations (from Christian to Muslim) burning books out in the street for their vile content.

Where are they now.

Default Gordon Brown - the Grumpy One!

This from above -

"In a groundbreaking final chapter, he draws on the best evidence available to predict what Gordon Brown will do with his new job"

Was Northern Rock considered? was fluffing a General Election date? was denying the public a referendum? was botching the devolution question? and many others in the final chapter?

I suppose Anthony will say I'll have to read the book!
