Have been watching the excellent documentary on BBC4 "Tory! Tory! Tory!", and part 2 is called a 'Path to Power' chronicling the events of the 1970s that led to Mrs Thatcher being elected Prime Minister.
Part of this programme explored the role the Freedom Association, formed in 1975, had in fighting the Unions, Socialism and also in propelling Thatcher to power. I was pleased to see this movement still in existence: The Freedom Association In short, the Freedom Association is a free market libertarian group that supports individual freedom in Britain. It has no formal affiliations with any party but historically many members have also been associated with the Conservative Party. It was formed in 1975 by the Viscount De L'Isle, Norris McWhirter, Ross McWhirter (murdered for his politics in the same year by the IRA) and former Army Major and Merchant Banker John Gouriet and has 7 'Core Principles', being: Core Principles The Freedom Association has seven core principles:[3] * Individual freedom * Personal and family responsibility * The rule of law * Limited government * Free market economy * National parliamentary democracy * Strong national defences And yes, it is anti-EU, launching the Better Off Out campaign in 2006.
