That's an ambiguous answer. In order for the people to mobilise and use their collective force, they have to subscribe to some political philosophy, thus inevitably producing political spokesmen to represent them. |

The next General Election could be two years away and in the latest opinion poll (by ComRes for the Independent - details of which I posted to the forum earlier this week) support for Labour actually increased by 4% to 30% - despite all their current problems. At 30% they are now on a projected vote share 6% lower than the actual vote share they won the last General Election on.

They do? Only if you accept collectivist ideologies. I would provide plenty of examples where this is not the case (such as boycotts, trade unions, etc) - but you conveniently changed the wording from 'politicians' to 'political spokesmen'.

Labour can still win the election. They won the last one on the lowest winning share in history. I wonder if Mr Brown will become a convert to electoral reform over the next two years? If he did, I'm sure Camoron wouldn't be too pleased about it! |
