Alot on the left don't and alot on the right have, so this is hardly a decent basis for that suggestions. There are collectivists and individualists on both sides, small gov't and big gov't people on both sides and libertarians and authoritarians on both sides. Assigning actual sides of a spectrum to such thing makes little sense and can't be well supported unless you want to use strawmen or make it axiomatic.
