I don't understand what you are suggesting. If French people don't like French Presidency, then what do they want? French do not support monarchy.

Thanks, last time I was in London in January 2005, and everything was closed.

I am convinced that the europhile Scottish 'National' Party would turn Scotland into a republic if they managed to get power in Scotland were she outside the UK.
I would suspect Salmond has been faced with a few harsh realitys since he came to power and one of those would have been an underestimation, a common fault amongst those who seek to abolish the monarchy of the real affection held for HMQ throughout the UK. He would indeed need the supports of monarchists and he has been questioned quite sharply on a number of occasions on the subject and has met HRH The Prince of Wales to discuss the matter.

I knew the public could access some areas of Buckingham Palace, but never having been inside I wasn't sure to what extent members of the public were allowed access.

When I was asked which side I would have joined in the English Civil War, I researched the subject and decided that I would have supported Cromwell. I remain true to that view, but one important point needs to be added and its a very valid point. Cromwell never wanted to abolish the monarchy. He wanted an accountable monarchy dedicated to serving the people not the other way round. His hand was forced by the machinations of Charles I and his obsessional belief in the divine right of kings.

I therefore conclude that the institution of monarchy is an ancient British tradition that should be continued, but that the monarch must sit at his or her throne by the will of the people and serve them well, even in the face of standing up to such tyranny as those that seek world government by international finance or the EU superstae.

It never ceases to amaze me how you republicans first of all emasculate the monarch, strip him of his powers and then moan buckets full when they fail to exercise a power that they no longer possess!

The only way how it could happen would be if northern ireland, scotland and wales decided to declare independence. Then England would become a republic.
Why would England become a republic? Explain your reasoning!

I was stating the fact that the lowest level of support in opinion polls (carried out in the UK) for the British Monarchy were higher than the highest levels of support ever recorded (in opinion polls carried out in France) for the French Presidency in France.

I think most people reading this understand perfectly well the point I am making.

Oh dear. Sorry you missed the chance to visit the interior of Buckingham Palace and the grounds.

Buckingham Palace is open to the public in the Summer (please check on the Buckingham Palace before your next visit for the exact dates and times and where to book tickets in advance).

The Tower of London exhibition of the Crown Jewels is not open for part of the Winter, by the way (if you wish to go there for a visit - please check on the Tower of London website for exact dates and times of opening and for details of how to book tickets in advance).

We've already been a republic of course, of course - long before most other countries (i.e. 'Lord Protector' Cromwell) and didn't like it.

Default Buckingham Palace, rooms, tour, Palace, gardens, Grosvenor Place, The Queen's Gallery

The tour around Buckingham Palace is changed every year or so to take in different rooms. After going through the tour inside the Palace (which includes the paintings room and the The Throne room), one can walk through the gardens at the back of the Palace to leave via the Grosvenor Place exit (calling, if one wishes to, at the tourist souvenir shop on the edge of the Palace Gardens on the way out).

The Queen's Gallery at Buckingham Palace (Buckingham Palace Road side) started opening to the public before the tours of some Palace rooms and the gardens commenced in the early 1990s - more about this on this excellent and highly impressive website:

Royal Residences > The Queen's Gallery at Buckingham Palace
