Default "Labour better off without Brown say 55% of Labour supporters: new poll"

55% of Labour voters want Gordon Brown out as Prime Minister and Labour Party leader, a new opinion poll by Populus for today's Times reveals. Labour is better off without him is the view of the majority of Labour supporters questioned.

Andrew Pierce, political editor of the Daily Telegraph, told Nick Ferrari's programme on LBC FM (independent news radio in London) at 8.39 am today "His (Brown's) personal opinion poll rating is as low as Blair's was in 2003 after the Iraq 'war' - it is now even lower than Liberal 'Democrat' leader Clegg's whose party also did not do well in last week's local and London elections."

Mr. Pierce added "There are two big icebergs on the horizon for Gordon Brown - the Crewe-Nantwich By-Election (22.5.2008) and the 42 days' detention vote."

Labour have been clever in putting up the daughter of The Late Mrs. Gwyneth Dunwoody MP as their candidate in the constituency of Crewe-Nantwich (held by by Gwyneth Dunwoody until her death last month), Mr. Pierce said. "They have called the Parliamentary By-Election quickly and the Dunwoody name is big and popular in Crewe-Nantwich."

Labour was better off before it was Nulabour. They need to get rid of all the Nulabour filth.

'New' Labour will argue that their electoral record is better (than that of 'old' Labour). 'New' Labour will point to their three consecutive General Election wins under Blair with huge majorities and they will remind everyone that this is something which never happened in the history of the Labour Party before when 'old' Labour ran the 'show'.

Poor Gordon.

The fact of the matter is, he is merely a scapegoat. Had Tony Blair stayed on, Labour might have done a little better in last week's elections, but not much.

One rather suspects that Tony just gone out in time, and passed the poisoned chalice to Gordon, knowing that the chickens were just about to come home to roost.

(How's that for mixed metaphors?

Old labour at least was labour, it did its best to represent the working classes. Nulab are just the Tories-lite.

They weren't my cup of tea exactly but they were better than Nulab or the bloody Tories.

Fair point. He is no innocent. He was part of the government, he bears much of the blame. But so were a lot of other people.

And for a further indication that the electoral problem is the party, not the leader, from the Telegraph:

"The YouGov poll, however, indicates that Labour's position would not improve with another leader in charge.

Potential successors such as Ed Balls, David Miliband, Jack Straw, Harriet Harman, Andy Burnham, Alan Johnson and James Purnell would all make things worse, the poll suggests.

The worse thing about this poll is the amount of people prepared to vote for boy dave's glee club that is just as worrying
