I agree with Bonnie, we should legalise drugs. If people like Doherty want to rot away in wasted oblivion, let them do it on their own time and money not at the publics expense in prison.
Lets face it if anyone thinks he is going to come out of the nick clean then they are sorely mistaken. This is basically a health issue and he needs medical treatment, not locked up in an environment where he can probably get better sh** then he can on the outside.

He isn't actually roting away however. He is doing quite well for himself.

It is a lifestyle and although I myself have dabbled in some softer drugs and SWIM still does, it is not for me to pass judgement.

"Who lives longer: the man who takes heroin for two years and dies, or the man who lives on roast beef, water, and potatoes till ninety-five? One passes his twenty-four months in eternity. All the years of the beef-eater are lived only in time."

I was meaning his health situation rather then his musical career. I was a big fan of the band Alice in Chains. Their singer was an incredibly talented young man, fairly wealthy but ended up kicking it of a heroine overdose. Pretty sad really but no amount of silly drug legislation will prevent this kind of thing happening.

At the end of the day it's up to people what they do with regards to their own health, if Doherty wants to **** himself up, as long as he does not break other peoples property etc. then that is up to him.

I have to say 99% of people I know have taken some form of illegal substance and 98% of them have steady jobs, a good lifestyle and a contribution to society and probably pay more tax then some of the anti drug whingers earn in a year ...

SWIM has long dabbled in drugs, now mostly only a bit of weed, some psychedlics and legal drugs and it has never done him any harm. It has even been positive.

BD> I think you will agre though it depends on the drugs and the person. Some people never take anything stronger then alcohol and end up as a mess, and others smoke a joint every day and are well functioning members of society.
I am of the opinion that heroin is a nasty drug that leaves many of its user in a very poor state. Do I believe it should be band for that.. well I personaly abhor it and think it's vile, but some of my favourite musicians who are now clean have taken it and I think my choice in music would be a whole lot thinner on the ground if they "hang 'em", "shoot 'em" brigade got their way!

Heroin is potent and can cause many an individual problems, although you'd be suprised how many well functioning professionals are regular users. Nasty is not perhaps the right word for it, it creates a serenity in the user and actually has few longterms, medical side effects unlike meth or alcohol except for addiction of course. Its not something I'd use however.

Methamphetamine is a real nasty drug though and just as addictive.
