This has got nothing to do whether you agree with BNP, SWP, communists, Islamic equivalent etc etc or not. Either we live in a democracy (in which those voted in are accepted as being the rep of % of the population's approval of its policies or home for protest against failure or other parties to act) , or we dont. In the latter, non violent are parties are banned or boycotted to disfranchise those wishing to protest or vote on what concerns them. History shows what happens next if marginalised people are disfranchised instead of listened to.

BNP will benefit and feed strength from being persecuted by bigots and anti democrats of the fascist left and well meaning people who cant see the dangers of selective democracy. Same as for any other minor party , the political establishment should listen issue by issue to BNP's arguments and case on facts, and consider what makes sense and expose what doesnt.

Remember governments sit down and talk with far worse outfits than BNP .... Hamas , Sinn Fein , certain extreme Islamic groups. ... and if they have bombs governments come begging them to tell them what they official posts they want ( eg in Stormont) , instead of banning them.

The only time to ban parties is when they use bombs in their strategy, instead of the democratic process.

Show me the bit about the BNP wishing to withdraw from the EU

It's not support merely an affirmation of peoples democratic rights I would say the same of the Communist Party

Besides which I'd rather have you where I can see you - like all pests

Vortex, think of it this way: If the equivalent of the Nazi party existed in today's society and advocated EU severence, would anyone support it? No.

As John Mcenroe used to say "You cannot be serious!" You state that you hate the BNP and ALL it stands for but did not know it advocates withdrawal from the EU?!

Anyway, I refer you to the BNP website (policies section) for clarification.

Well there would actually be a few idiots who would support an openly Nazi party for starters. However, I believe that as the Nazis wished to impose their "Germanic ideals" on the entire continent of Europe, they would actually be IN FAVOUR of the EU! The leading fascist and neo-nazi parties in Europe decided this at a conference in Venice in 1962 when they agreed on the concept of "Europe a Nation" and the idea of a National Party of Europe.

As a democratic nationalist I am of course opposed to both totalitarianism and uphold the rights of a nation state to exist.

The statement made by G.Hall and agreed to by yourself was that you "opposed everything the BNP stands for". Clearly that is not the case.

I was talking figuratively...

You clearly lack any form of direct listening capability, instead choosing to see everything said through a filter.

Actually I believe that I am one of the most accomodating debaters on this forum, its just that I prefer to deal with facts and issues with clarity rather than engaging in semantics.

I am dealing in a theoretical scenario, conjured up in order to put across a point, which you deliberately take as real. This is not semantics, this is the use of commonly held viewpoints to illustrate a point.

Default democracy

I think this has certainly raised some important questions with regards to the democratic process or lack of in this country.

I guess I can see why people wouldn't to work with the BNP.
Example: If you truly believe they have nasty elements amongst them and that by actively helping them through your job you are fascilitating a party that may turn on you in the future once powerful enough i.e. the turkey voting for christmas scenario then I can understand why an asian employ might not want to help the BNP.
They may also be stuck in the position where they can't afford to quit their job.

However we live in a democracy and the scenario is that every democratically elected representative of no banned political groups should be treated equally with regards to facilities, resources etc.
The staff at the GLA office may think like my example but at the end of the day they where hired to work in an office where elected representatives would be working and will change with each election.

Maybe a disclaimer should be signed by all future employee's of government positions stating they understand that by taking the job they have to work for people they may not agree with but they are free to resign at any time with no penatly if they quit because of the elected representative in office.
It should also state that they should think carefully before taking the position as quitting could have an obvious detrement to their lifestyle but this is the choice they make through taking the job.
By signing this disclaimer if they then go out of their way to not cooperate but not chose to quit, they should be sacked with all pentalities this entails. The disclaimer would also be used as defence against any parasite lawyers attempting to sure for unfair dismisal.

May sound harsh but unfortunatly we live in a society where the "Left" thinks only it's idea of democracy is permitted and those who don't agree with their view aren't permittited to partake.

I don't agree with all of the BNPs policies and I think some of their members are an utter disgrace to this country but democracy is democracy. As long as they do not advocate murder or attempt to use the state apparatus in a dishonest/fascist manner then they have the same right as any other party to voice their views.

The problem with the "Left" is, it just does not like democracy and personal choice at the end of the day.
