Europhile Livingstone - Labour candidate in next week's Mayoral election in the capital - has (allegedly) said that he would like to think that he could work with pro-EU George Galloway MP who is standing as a Respect Party candidate for the London Assembly (the Assembly election will take place on the same day as the Mayoral vote).
Livingstone is hoping that Labour will get the support of Green Party members of the London Assembly (GLA) and of Mr. Galloway to try to block Conservatives who are likely to remain the largest group on the GLA after next week's Mayoral and Assembly elections. Galloway's leftist Respect Party faces strong competition in the campaign for the 2008 London Assembly election from The Left List (some of whose members may have come from the Respect Party). The Left List could take vital votes denying him victory - although Mrs. Lindsey German, The Left List Mayoral candidate, could just as easily claim the exact reverse about Mr. Galloway's party. Both parties opposed the Iraq 'war' and may be appealing to the same voters. Galloway is another of Scotlands rejects who came down to England with the intent of rounding up Muslims. Strange how Galloway (ex-Labour) forms a party that opposed New Labours lies and warmongering, yet, now works with New Labour.
Fake opposition! |
