Or course Scargill was much the same.
Gladstonian Liberals v Communists playing games with Britains economy.

True but Communists only gain control of the Unions because of lack of internal democracy within them.

It was Scargill and militant leftist trade unionists who had long planned to take on the democratically elected Conservative Government. They tried it in 1974 and then came back for more in 1984.

If Scargill thought that he could bring down the 'Iron Lady' - he was deluded. What a great day it was to watch his press conference live on television in 1984 when he had to concede defeat (for his unwanted strike) after almost a year.

We were lucky to have Lady Thatcher as Prime Minister - she saw off the trade union militant lefties who wanted to take us back to the days of the 1974 miners' strike and the power cuts causing the Christmas tree lights to got out which that strike brought everyone.

As for foreign ownership of British companies (including of water and electricity suppliers): I want UK companies to stay under British ownership.

But as long as we are in the EU we cannot stop continental european companies taking over what were British products like HP Sauce or Rolls Royce.

Lady Thatcher became the first ever former British Prime Minister to say that entry into the EU Single Market (which has rules meaning that we cannot stop those in other EU nations from buying UK businesses) was a mistake.
