Despite the corruption charges brough against him, I still respect Ashley Mote. It appears he is the only MEP to have really taken a vociferous stance against the EU.

I wonder if those charges are what have stopped him from officially joining the BNP.

You mean apart from the fact he tried to use his position as an MEP to get legal immunity from prosecution, despite criticising the very same system and advocating the rule of law beforehand?

He is a hypocrite and a fraudster.

I echo Eurosceptic Atlanticist.

Mote knew he was going to be up on a charge of defrauding the Council taxpayers of Chichester of several tens of thousands of pounds, and didn't tell anyone on the UKIP National Executive, contrary to party rules. He got to the European Parliament on the back of the hard work and donations of thousands of hard-working UKIP members and supporters. He deprived someone else in UKIP from representing them in the European Parliament.

Then he used the very institutions he professes to despise - the European Parliament and its Legal Committee - to try and win immunity from prosecution in his beloved England. He failed - and was lucky only to get a 9-month jail terms (which in fact lasted barely four months). The judges' summing-up on Mote was devastating.

He is a continuing embarrassment to UKIP - and to Nigel Farage, who effectively appointed him and anointed him as his South East England 'running mate' in 2004.

I'm surprised the BNP want anything to do with him.

But credit where credit is due.

He has achieved his primary goals.

A guaranteed salary (even while in prison!) for 5 years.

And a handsome pension for him and his dependants

The BNP would condemn him if he wasn't cosying up to them.

Every word in this post is true. How Ashley Mote can look at himself in the mirror in the morning escapes me. He betrayed the hope and trust that so many placed in him.
