Default "Cameron wants people to have power to activate local referendums" (claim)

It will be reported in tomorrow's Sunday Times that pro-EU and anti-UKIP Cameron (allegedly) wants people to have the power to petition to activate both local referendums and debates in the House of Commons:

Default Brief edited extract, David Cameron, referendum, voters, europhiles, Switzerland

Brief extract from tomorrow's Sunday Times about David Cameron's alleged support for local referendums being held in the UK (Quote) "Under his plans, a petition signed by 10% of the local electorate would lead to a referendum, held on the day of the next council election. They have local initiatives in Portland, Oregon, and the system is regarded as a great success” he said. (End of quote)

So , no support, it seems, from David Cameron for voters having the power to activate national referendums (i.e. on matters such as the EU).

I notice that he did not mention the referendum system used in Switzerland where voters have twice used referendums to stop europhiles trying to force their country into the EU.

Sounds like he's copying the UKPopDems policies....

Could it be that 'senior' politicians are indeed reading this forum in order to trawl it for new ideas to put into policies for their morally bankrupt Parties?

Do the UK PopDems back a policy of supporting national referendums, Hunter? David Cameron only wants referendums at local level.

From what I understand of their policy, they (UKPopDems) want to have local issues decided by the electorate by way of referendum. This will direct the local council to divert funds to the areas the local people want and not what they (council) decide.

I could be wrong here, but this is how I interpret their policy. Please correct me if this is the case.
