Sky Television news reporter Peter Spencer said on Sky News at 5.10 pm today “There is some snobbishness against Commons Speaker Michael Martin – he was a metal worker.” Mr. Spencer said that “he is under pressure” over recent criticisms. And Mr. Spencer confirmed that "some people call him Gorbals Mick". The Speaker, Mr. Martin, represents the Glasgow constituency which includes the Gorbals area. He originally entered the House of Commons as a Labour MP.
