You are not alone Brittanist.
Skinner suffers an aspiration/competency conflict.
He has never openly criticised this governments financial wrongdoings.
He once made a speech in the HoC saying that MP's should retire at 65.
Skinner is 72 years old.
He makes great claims as to his probity and honesty.
He was pictured some years ago skulking outside the home of his mistress.
He has not made any comments in the House about Mick Martin's false claims for expenses.

How Dennis Skinner voted on key issues since 2001:

Has never voted on a transparent Parliament. votes, speeches
Voted moderately for introducing a smoking ban. votes, speeches
Voted moderately for introducing ID cards. votes, speeches
Voted moderately against introducing foundation hospitals. votes, speeches
Voted a mixture of for and against introducing student top-up fees. votes, speeches
Voted moderately for Labour's anti-terrorism laws. votes, speeches
Voted moderately against the Iraq war. votes, speeches
Voted very strongly against investigating the Iraq war. votes, speeches
Voted very strongly against replacing Trident. votes, speeches
Voted very strongly for the hunting ban. votes, speeches
Voted very strongly for equal gay rights. votes, speeches
Dennis Skinner MP, Bolsover (TheyWorkForYou.com)

There are dozens of Denis Skinners populating the Labour backbenches, hence this discredited government's continuation in office.

Default Interesting fact, smoking, EU-backed ID cards, Commons, national interest, Trident

I wasn't aware of this interesting and useful fact, Phil. Thank you.

So, Skinner voted for authoritarian measures - banning smoking and backing intrusive EU-backed ID cards. Not that I am surprised - he seems to make a lot of noise in the Commons but is of no benefit to the national interest at all. Indeed, his views on Trident (voting against it) are harmful to it. I also understand that he is not a member of Labour Against the EU Superstate.

Bolsover deserves a better MP than Skinner.
