Default Alan Johnson 'misleading' over fluoride benefits

Alan Johnson 'misleading' over fluoride benefits - Telegraph

Quote:
Alan Johnson, the Health Secretary, has been accused of overstating the benefits of adding fluoride to water in the fight against dental disease.
Leader: Alan Johnson fights over fluoride Tooth decay in children across Europe has fallen irrespective of whether there is fluoride in the water, authors of a report have said.
Quote:
The countries with the biggest drop in childhood tooth decay - Sweden, Netherlands, Finland and Denmark - do not fluoridate the water.
So it's another round of ******** for the people.

I seem to recall that it was Thatcher who advocated putting fluoride in our drinking water. She being a chemist no doubt knew at the time that fluoride is a poison and still carried on with her policy. Perhaps the fact that one of her companies (if I'm not mistaken) had fluoride as one of it's by-products (which is expensive to dispose of) may have helped her with her decision.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but doesn't everyone use fluoride toothpaste anyway?

Fluoride toothpast is used then spat out. The flouride in the drinking water is what does the damage.

Not everyone. That fact you aren't digesting it is the key.

Though there was a study a while ago that suggested that having a shower with flouride in the water is bad, as you take a lot of it in just through breathing.

As I said though, I couldn't give a toss if people WANT to take flouride. That is their call to make. Putting it in everyones drinking water though is mass medication and should have no place in a free society.

Exactly, there is no need for state medication on this. People can easily take some in (eg through fluoride toothpaste) or not as they chose.

Putting it into toothpaste will only use small amounts, leaving a large amount for the companies to dispose of. Putting it into drinking water uses just about every bit of by-product, leaving very little for the companies to deal with.

There is also a general opinion that the fluoride caused a weakening of will in people. Ideal for a government that wants to control the population.
