Default Commons benches almost empty during debate on EU Treaty: click here for photo please

CentreRight: If Lisbon Treaty is "fundamental change", where are all the Tories?

Most of them are aware that they're wasting their time debating this. It will be railroaded through, against the wishes of the electorate, and many of the members in both Houses.

Why bother turning up when everyone knows what the result will be?

Perhaps they felt their minds were made up and that they couldn't persuade anyone else to come to their view.

Why are we paying these cretins again?

When I watched some of it on BBC Parliament, people like Cash and Heathcote Amory were talking sense - they had well prepared speeches, well delivered, but what for?

The debates are pointless as Lab and Lib-Dem couldn't give a damn about the effects of all this on the UK people. In the divisions (when loads of MPs piled in to the chamber just to vote) the government was getting majorities of about 200.

Maybe it will get a bit more interesting when there is an amendment to require a referendum (?) - but not banking on it.

An amendment would have to be voted on - which would have the same result. I queried my MP about the European Override and all I got back was junk about how good the 'Treaty' is for the UK and our 'Red Lines' are guaranteed. The question about the Override being totally ignored.

mkpd: I don't think you should refer to MPs as cretins. Cretins are on the whole decent people with a disorder. They are not corrupt, self seeking publicists, devoid of morals and principles and simply exist to feather their own nests treating people with contempt.

Therfore cretins are a far more worthy group in society than MPs, who probably occupy its bottom rung.

Fair play. I withdraw the comment.

That's quite full for the Commons.

Default Lisbon debates: Photo of an empty Commons

I recommend that the anti-EU parties have a copy of that photo on their June 2009 Euro election leaflets, saying

"This is what the Tory, Labour, Lib Dem traitors to England think about giving away your democracy".
