Default Archbishop says some aspects of Shria law unavoidable.

BBC NEWS | UK | Sharia law in UK is 'unavoidable'

Can I just say I dont think I will be the only anglican to disagree with him.

What a disappointment. Christians in Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan and parts of Pakistan practice their religion in fear. Sharia law is mysogenistic and will not value the evidence of women who are treated as children. That should not be acceptable in this country.

Migrants will not integrate if they are allowed to set up separate courts. The Archbishop should think before he speaks. Having 2 parallel and mutually incompatible systems will lead to chaos. People will choose the system they believe favours them and will then resort to the other one if they don't get what they want. Madness.

The law in England and Wales has evolved over time and until the current bunch of useless to55ers called NuLabour was pretty much fit for purpose and worked surprisingly well (interesting how many members of NuLab are connected with the legal profession) Now in their haste to please the EUSSR they are screwing it royally and they will bow to the nutters and propose small concessions to Sharia law until we're up to our collective ar5es in it

Remember how long it took to get rid of the church laws Thomas Becket was so fond of ?

Now rjt you see one of the reasons why I am so opposed to Religion and politics being mixed! Williams by making this statement will make the "foreign aliens" think they can ignore the rule of the land. Williams by making this statement is being a marvellous recruiting agent for the BNP!

Do we really need the Church of England any more? It does seem to have outlived it's purpose, belonging in the mid 20th century and before, it also seems hell bent on promoting the competition. Time for the Archbishop to wind it up and for him to retire to Tehran? He'll be a hero there at least!

Absolutely unbelievable statement by Rowan Williams. I know a lot of liberal lefties, including weak clerics, are immune from the joys of multiculturalism, living as they do in seclusion from it, but surely they do keep abreast of world news?

Why doesn't Williams try and visit Saudi Arabia and ask them if he can preach to the people there on the joys of cultural and religious diversity.? He could tell them to embrace women and gays as equals and state that Islam is but one of several religions in the country!

That would be one way of removing a turbulent priest!

(Apologies to Henry II)

I'm curious, what of those Muslims who do not wish to participate in Sharia law? I'm sure a woman who doesn't want an arranged marriage wouldn't want to have a Sharia court decide for her.

Feed your curiosity,go & ask one or perhaps a few then you'll have a large pool of opinion from the sisters of Islam!

Impossible & inappropriate comment/suggestion from the Archbishop

Why would I ask only women? A woman who doesn't want an arranged marriage would obviously not want a sharia court to decide for her, unless she was completely irrational.
