Daily Star: Simply The Best 7 Days A Week :: News :: B.N.P split as rebels hit out
THE British National Party is on the verge of collapse after party rebels branded leader Nick Griffin “a paranoid dictator”. Tensions within party ranks exploded when two key organisers were accused of plotting a coup against Griffin and were sacked for “gross misconduct”. The exiled members have now rallied under the title of pressure group Voice Of Change and have vowed to fight Griffin for leadership of the extreme right-wing party. Led by the BNP’s former head of group development Sadie Graham and head of administration Kenny Smith, the 60-strong rebel group want reform of the party. They say they want to make it “more democratic and modern” and are preparing to drag Griffin and the party through the courts. But Griffin, 49, leader of the party since 1999, is resisting all moves for change – branding the revolutionaries “Neo-Nazi cranks”. Now the battle is causing huge tensions in the party, leading some commentators to predict that it could end up imploding. Gerry Gable, publisher of the anti-fascist magazine Searchlight, said: “Ever since he became involved in far-right politics as a teenager Nick Griffin has caused splits and in-fighting. “Now it has happened in the BNP. The so-called rebels have not gone looking for Griffin – he has gone looking for them and split the movement at a time when they needed unity. “The party is now at its weakest in terms of members. It has fewer than 5,000 members, with a growing number in the rebel camp.” Voice Of Change members say they were forced into forming their pressure group in a bid to try to change the party for the better. Sadie Graham told us: “We do not want to break away or form a new party. We were expelled but we have already voted to appeal to have our memberships reinstated. “We want to make the party more democratic, amend the constitution and strengthen the membership system. “At the moment only the chairman is elected. We want to change that but Nick Griffin won’t make any changes. His leadership is completely dictatorial and paranoid. “The party is in a state of crisis because of Griffin’s refusal to accept change. “Voice Of Change held a meeting in the East Midlands last Sunday where we voted to challenge the party to reinstate myself and the other sacked members. “If we are not successful we will take the BNP to court.” The rebels insist they are loyal to the BNP and will find a candidate to stand against Griffin from within the party’s membership, even if they are not reinstated themselves. Their anger focuses on two of Mr Griffin’s main allies – Mark Collett, director of publicity, and regional organiser Dave Hannam. The rebels also claim an investigation by the BNP’s “intelligence team” tricked its way into Ms Graham’s home and took her computers. She and Mr Smith were then dismissed for setting up an “anti-BNP smear blog” and for plotting an “amateurish alleged coup attempt”. Last night the BNP denied it was in crisis. Simon Darby, the BNP spokesman, said: “There is no crisis – we will not be losing any sleep over this.”

Interesting court case coming up maybe?
As I understand Employment Law; immediate dismissal of an employee is permissable for gross misconduct. That includes abusing your employer, stealing, and the like. I wonder how an Employment Tribunal will look upon the "Enough is Enough" blog?

This does show what a complete and utter fool Griffin is. Furiously claiming he has cleaned up the party he now tells the world that the party is full of "neo-Nazi" cranks. What a berk!

About 6 weeks old and out of date news from the ''we got loads of birds getting their tits out'' Daily Star.
Meanwhile in the real world, the BNP is getting Livingstone rattled because of the hundreds of thousands of leaflets put out, and more to come. |

You can put out a million squintillion leaflets, but that doesn't mean you'll have a million squintillion votes. There must be a lot of nailbiting going on at the BMP's London campaign right now - will the infighting wreck their image before the London Assembly election or can they keep it quiet until afterwards?

Its a strange case which because they were expelled from the party, they only worked for the party as they was members. How can an expelled person work for the party? They also do have the right to appeal their expulsion at a disciplinary tribunal thing which I believe they are going to do so. These people wanted Nick to sack mark for something he had done years ago and for having a personality they dont like. I think an employment tribunal would look down on that as being wrong. |

I think there is a bit more to it than that Blue Blood - like financial probity and the constitution of a dictator. Mark,as you call him, has been the cause of many able officials resigning and continues to make errors that can not be permitted in a party so closely scrutinised by the establishment media.
There is also Griffin;s personality - his propensity to cause splits and division as well as the embarrassing relationship between him and Mark! Don't forget you can not build up a movement by periodically destroyinf the succesful branches. The ill-informed thinking this is the only hope is false optimism.
