Default Appalled, thought, political career, 'President', demean, British Prime Minister

I am appalled at the thought of Blair's flagging political career getting a boost by him possibly being made 'President' of the EU.

I also think it would demean the office of British Prime Minister for a former incumbent of 10 Downing Street to take on the job of 'President' of an organisation such as the wasteful and badly run EU whose own auditors have refused for over a decade to approve its accounts.

I expect Brown would wish to veto this but he dare not as it would visably show the rift between them.

Default Brown, Blair, Brussels, EU, UK, Brown

Good point RJT.

The last thing Brown wants is Blair running the show in Brussels.

For - once in charge of the EU - Blair would have more power over the UK Government than Brown does.

A point made by William Hague in the debate on The Lisbon Treaty last week, sadly the Torys refusal to hold a retrespective referendum on the treaty makes such a possiblity even more likely.

If Blair becomes El Presidente it might just wake up some Brits. If people start wondering how somebody they hated and were glad to see booted from office now prancing around Europe like some demi-God, they might just start to realise the danger the EU is. I guess I can dream!

As 'President' of the EU Blair would have more power over the British Government than Brown does.

People were rightly keen to see the back of Blair - UK voters woud (understandably) be very annoyed if they found the discredited and unwanted Blair popping up on the political scene again with even more power than he had at 10 Downing Street.

I don't think you're dreaming! In my opinion Blair being made President might just be the "Last straw that broke the Camels back" as far as the EU is concerned. Blair and his missus became such hate figures towards the end of his reign, that him becoming EU President might just wake up "thickos Joe and Jane Public" as to how bad the EU is! Of course a lot will hang on what the Daily Mirror and Sun have to say on the subject!
