There are certainly some people in the mostly anti-euro Conservative (Tory) membership who want to destroy our Pound. These europhiles are impostors in the ranks of the Conservative Party who are not real Tories and whose main aim is to 'keep the EU flag flying' in Conservative circles.
Only the Exchange Rate Mechanism (ERM) disaster of 16.9.1992 stopped the europhile so-called Conservative Major from forcing the UK into the euro without even a referendum (just as 'Conservative' Heath and the Heathmen forced us into the EEC/EU in 1973 with no referendum).
I believe that it is only the existence of anti-EU and anti-euro UKIP - and the fact that UKIP candidates are capable (as has been shown in previous General Elections) of taking vital votes from the Conservatives in their key target marginal constituencies - that is stopping the europhile impostors in the Conservative Party from trying to launch another attempt to force the UK into the hated euro.
