Default Leader of europhile Liberal Dims quizzed over his referendum views

Sir Menzies Campbell, leader of the europhile Liberal Dims (curerntly stuck on 15% in the opinion polls - 8% less than at the last General Election), has just been interviewed on BBC 2 Television Newsnight.

The annual conference of the Liberal Dims is taking place in Brighton this week and earlier today Barroso, EU Commission President, delivered a speech to the conference in which he appealed for support for the EU 'Treaty' (EU Constitution re-heated).

Campbell made the laughable claim at at 10.58 pm in his Newsnight interview "This (EU 'Amending Treaty') is a substantially different document (from the EU Constitution)."

But he correctly pointed out that the 'Conservative' Government of europhile Major refused a referendum on the EU Maastricht Treaty - a treaty he said had turned the EEC into the EU.

Campbell repeated his call - first made in public last week - that the UK should have a referendum on EU membership but not on the EU 'Amending Treaty'.

Interviewer David Grossman asked the Liberal Dim Party leader "Why didn't you call for a referendum on EU membership before - are you only doing so now to divert attention away from the fact that you made a mistake in not earlier backing the 88% who want a referendum on the EU Amending Treaty?"

Campbell responded "Do you see the future in the EU - I do." He added ludicrously "We can't deal with climate change or immigration if we are not in the EU."

"The benefits of the EU are overwhelming" Campbell claimed (without, as usual, saying us exactly what they were). "I am a committed european" he emphasised.

We can't deal with climate change in or out of the EU - the UK does not pollute as much as nations such as China and the United States, neither of which are in the EU.

Default Liberal Dim Party, illegal immigrants, carbon emissions, UK

Today the Liberal Dim Party voted to give a "selective" amnesty to illegal immigrants in the UK. Reports say that there are half a million such people in the UK.

This means that if these people are allowed to stay in the UK they will continue to add to carbon emissions (apart from the amnesty policy of the europhile Liberal Dims encouraging more illegal immigration to the UK from people who think they will get an amnesty too).

Another example of how Liberal Dim policies are contradictory (as well as being damaging to the UK) and another example of why that party must not be allowed to enter into the Governance of this country.

The awfull thing is, although current polls dont indicate it but the Lib Dems could lose a good proportion of thier seats and yet still be in a more infleuncial position if the next election is tight.

True. We just have to hope that Dr. Paisley's DUP (and/or the Ulster Unionist Party) are in a strong position in such circumstances. What the europhile Liberal Dims don't like to admit is that there are other small parties in the House of Commons (as well as one or two independents) who would/will also want to have a say in the event of a 'hung' Parliament (or Parliament where the Governing party has a small majority).
