Default Anti-EU Tory MP 'worried about inexperienced Cameron'

Anti-EU Conservative MP Mrs. Ann Winterton has "expressed worries that David Cameron lacked experience and was neglecting older voters" reported ITV 1 Teletext at 4.02 am today (analogue page 310).

ITV said the comments of Mrs. Winterton - who has been a Conservative MP for many years (unlike David Cameron who was only elected in 2002) - "were a sign of the difficulties facing the Conservative leader."

"I am very concerned about the present leadership team" Mrs. Winterton told ITV, adding "the recent renunciation of grammar schools (by David Cameron) was wrong".

Mrs. Winterton was once a frontbench spokesman in the House of Commons for her party. Her husband, Nicholas, is also an MP and he wants out of the EU too. He warned Blair about the dangers of the EU Treaty (EU Constitution version 2) at last week's Prime Minister's Question Time (thankfully Blair's last appearance in the Commons chamber).

"The grass roots are baffled by his (David Cameron's) reforms" Mrs. Winterton informed ITV.

* Pro-EU David Cameron criticised UKIP in an interview he gave London's LBC radio on 4.4.2006. He says he will not appoint anyone to the Shadow Cabinet who is not in favour of the UK remaining in the EU.
