Default 'Pound in peril' says 'paper: Brown starts euro entry review

This week's Sunday People newspaper reported that Gordon Brown has ordered a review of the UK going into the euro :x  :x – just days after becoming Prime Minister. Last month, Brown said in an interview that he wanted the UK to enter the euro.

Brief extract from the People newspaper of 1.7.2007:

In Brussels, Mr Brown's move (to have a review of euro entry) will be welcomed as a political masterstroke. An EU Commission source explained: "It draws the fire away from those campaigning for a referendum on the new constitutional treaty."

Then the UK is well and truly ******.
Does this mean that Brown's strategy for getting the EU president's job is also underway?

Mr Brown has said that opting in to the euro would be one of the "most momentous decisions" ever taken in UK politics.
Swap 'momentous' for ludicrous.

Personally i think Brown likes control too much and would never give up the GBP. He devised the '5 economic tests' to kill Blair's Euro abmition dead. I think this is all political posturing to show he is a good European and nothing more.

What's the betting we'll be in the Euro by the next election? And sooner, rather than later?

Gordon the Moron is promoting Cabinet government now bear in mind he kept the UK out of the euro when chancellor. If he says look the cabinet have made this decision he then blames the current incumbent and then takes the UK out and adds chancellor to his roles

Machiavellian or what

I doubt that he could pull off anything like that.
For a start if we went into the euro there ain't nobody going to just turn around and pull us out again. It's not something that would be done on a whim to score a point or two.
I can't see any point in us going in to the euro, we've outperformed every euro country by a significant margin. We have lower unemployment than all of the major countries - what could we possibly gain? Except for economic stagnation and eventual bankruptcy.
