Default Gordon Brown refuses to give a Yes to English equality in UK

Labour Government Chancellor Gordon Brown (who represents a Scottish constituency in the Commons) appeared on Newsnight on BBC 2 Television last night and was quizzed by three BBC reporters on a number of subjects.

BBC political correspondent Nick Robinson asked Mr. Brown (at 10.58 pm on 22.6.2007 on Newsnight) about "the English question". The term "the English question" refers to the fact that Scotland has its own Parliament inside the UK but England does not and that Scottish MPs in the Commons can vote on specifically English matters when they cannot vote on those same issues as they affect their own Scottish constituents because those matters are now dealt with by the Scottish Parliament.

Mr. Brown commented "I think you have to look at the evolution of devolution and be sensitive to the concerns of the 85% of the UK population who are English."

Britannist adds
: In other words - no to an English Parliament (and to equality for the English with the Scottish within the UK).

It's all part of the plan.

Expect more, until we get all the EUphiles out.

Default Brown on evolution of constitution, Scottish Parliament

Gordon Brown also said on the BBC 2 Television Newsnight interview yesterday "I'm not a supporter of English-only voting for English laws" (in the House of Commons)."

He also said "We have to look at the evolution of the constitution".

Britannist adds: I bet Gordon Brown didn't favour looking at "the evolution of the constitutution" ten years ago - when he and his Labour friends were busy planning setting up the Scottish Parliament. "Looking at the evolution of the constitution" is alright for England from his point of view (because the words just mean no English Parliament) - but not for his own land of Scotland (which was given its own Parliament as a priority by the first Blair Labour Government without any talk of "evolution").
