I listened to the arguments on the Today programme. They are not taking into account that there is a shortage of housing, water, doctors, dentists and school places. It is nonsense.

Migrants do help in agriculture, picking potatoes, strawberries etc, they should be allowed to come in with work permits and then go back home when the season ends. Atm any EU worker can claim child benefit for the kids he has back home. It is ridiculous.

We have got to get our work shy into work, and the only way we can do that is by limiting the benefit they get. It is no wonder they can't see any point in getting up in a morning and going to work when we pay them more to sit at home and watch TV.

6.30-7.00 17 minutes into the programme. Professor Coleman and Brendon Barbour

The Professor speaking against Brendan Barber on this put his finger on it when he suggested that immigrants are seen as boosting union membership.

I hope that British workers start to realise that the unions are looking after the unions, not them.

British job- seekers are being refused work because they do not speak Polish, it has been claimed.

The influx of Eastern European workers means the language is now vital for jobs in agriculture, says MP Malcolm Moss.

His North East Cambridgeshire constituency has seen the arrival of a huge number of migrant workers to pick fruit and vegetables, as well as fill other low-paid jobs in packing and food processing plants.

Many of the farms and companies involved rely on local job agencies or gangmasters to supply workers.

Mr Moss told yesterday how a constituent had been denied work at one factory because she did not speak Polish.

"A woman came to my surgery to tell me about her daughter's experience when she was looking for work," he said.

"The daughter was aged 18 or 19 and had been to the job centre, where there was little work.

"Instead she was told to try the local factories in person.

"They, in turn told her they did not recruit directly and referred her on to a gangmaster who held the contract to supply the staff."

Mr Moss added: "This particular gangmaster told the woman, 'If you don't speak Polish I can't put you on the assembly line, because they all speak Polish.

"They won't accept you, and you won't be able to communicate with them anyway".

"This is obvious discrimination. It is no wonder that youth unemploymentis on the rise."

Has Malcolm Moss brought the issue up in parliament about the corrupt practices of these gangmasters and job agencies?

Job agencies really need a bomb up their backside as many provide poor service and engage in corrupt practices including advertising bogus jobs.

Here we go again with these canards.

If immigration benefits an economy then it should be encouraged into Africa. They need every boost they need to their economies.

Migrant workers in the UK are not affecting the workshy. They were workshy before May 2006. Migrant workers affect low paid workers, and do we want that?

The problem is quite simple the benefits system is far to complicated for anyone to understand and that includes the buffoon responsible for most of it yes the prime minister in waiting Gordon the Moron.
Not only that but if there where no unemployed how many people would that throw out of work.
It suits successive governments and big business to have a pool of unemployed to use and abuse if any government was serious about this then using the report by Frank Field would be a good starting point.
It would also have been helpful to replace the council housing sold of by the Thatcher and Major administration's

Talking to many people what they want is the security of somewhere decent to live, the chance to earn a decent living and not to see their hard earned taxes ****** away by successive governments

It's actually more difficult living off benefits that most people think it is. Jobseekers allowance only lasts 13 weeks and claimants have to prove they have applied for 4 jobs each fortnight. After 13 weeks the Job Centre can literally force somebody into a particular job or stop the benefits. Jobseekers allowance only pays around £60 each week, so ebay trading is often more profitable.

Most long term dole scroungers make use of higher level benefits, such as those for housing, children, illness, and disability.

Well I dont doubt what you say but then something must be very wrong with the system because people are not being forced into jobs hence unmployment is still up arround the million mark.
