Brilliant programme tonight I thought - basically tracing Britain during Thatcher's time at No 10. Powerful script from Marr, well delivered with nicely selected footage to illustrate - no annoying gimmicks.

The woman was foolish, wise, and stubborn, and very, very lucky until the political end came. She was booted out over the EU, yet she's done NOTHING since to make up for her own and her party's treachery.

Good analysis, but I would argue that if she hadn't been PM we would have had more of the same for at least another 10 years. Marr said he thought that she was the only one capable of turning the country around. Even Churchill, he thought, would have fudged.

I for one could not stomach more bloody nonsense a day longer in 1979, so was pleased to see her elected. Looking back, she was a bit like a Victorian country parson that had discovered a medicinal compound from the flowers in the herbaceous border and was keen to test it out on the various members of the parish! :wink:
