They can vote in local and EU elections in the UK, I believe, but not in UK General Elections.

There was a plot a while back by Blair to try to change this to allow EU nationals full voting rights in the UK :x . Blair wanted to do this so EU nationals could vote in a referendum on the euro or EU Constitution in the UK. He thought that their votes would most likely be in support of the euro/EU Constitution and that in a close vote their support could 'swing the referendum' his way  .

I understand when it all got into the newspapers what he was up to - Labour abandoned the plan. For now.

I should think Local Elections is OK for Labour.

Default Bliar, Brown, Labour, Lie-bour, UK passports, elections

Blair/Brown's Lie-bour Party have given UK passports to a million people from outside the EU since May 1997 and they will be hoping that these people will be grateful enough to them and vote Labour whenever elections are held.

The majority of the one million, of course, are in the south-east of England and so won't put too much of a strain on public services in either Blair or Brown's constituencies.

This explains the situation:

At a general election, the following people cannot vote:
anyone under 18 years old
members of the House of Lords, including life peers, Church of England archbishops and bishops and hereditary peers who have retained their seat in the House of Lords - these people can, however, vote at elections to local authorities, devolved legislatures and the European Parliament
European Union citizens - who can, however, vote at local government, devolved legislature and European parliamentary election level
citizens of any country apart from the Irish Republic and Commonwealth countries
convicted persons detained in pursuance of their sentences, although remand prisoners, unconvicted prisoners and civil prisoners in default of fine or breach of 'recognisance' (an obligation to the court or magistrate) can vote if they are on the electoral register
anyone found guilty within the previous five years of corrupt or illegal practices in connection with an election
and, under common law
people with learning disabilities or a mental illness if, on polling day, they are incapable of making a reasoned judgement

I was right as far as the general elections are concerned, but surprised to see that EU citizens can vote in local and devolved elections, presumably including Scots and Welsh Parliamentary/Assembly elections.

There's no wonder we have a housing shortage, now Hain has come out in favour of giving our housing stock away to anyone who rolls up with a begging bowl!

Hain rejects Hodge's housing call

Northern Ireland Secretary Peter Hain has said housing policy must not be made "on the hoof" after a minister said UK citizens should have priority.
Industry minister Margaret Hodge said allocation should involve residence and national insurance payment details.

But Mr Hain said housing should be "based on need, like the NHS".

A No 10 spokesman said the government recognised it was an issue in some places, adding that the key was to keep boosting the amount of social housing.

Asked about Mrs Hodge's comments at the launch of his Labour deputy leadership campaign, Mr Hain said more property had to be built for rent and sale.

If any of these persons do bother to Vote; not many of them will be voting for the Conservatives!

Have you ever wondered just why Labour favours Mass Immigration?

Mass Immigration = Imported Labour Voters.

Default Labour and importing Labour votes

Yes, I've been well aware for many years that Labour's tactic is to try to import Labour votes.

Confirming what I wrote earlier in this thread (at 1.18 pm on 26.5.2007) with regard to EU 'citizens'.
