I should imagine that the Honda man would not be too pleased at the suggestion.

In any case, I have heard of Japanese investors in the UK saying that they are quite happy to invest in a country not in the euro.
Of course you have, the conditions under which one business operates are vastly different to the conditions under which another business operates. The Euro may be good for Honda (which exports a lot of cars to western Europe) and bad for other businesses which don't operate under the same model. There will never be a consensus amongst business on that issue, the fact that Honda have said the Euro would be good for Britain is meaningless, all it means is that the Euro would be good for Honda and I've no doubt that they've said this because it's true. However that doesn't mean we should or shouldn't join the Euro, the overall arguments for joining the Euro are, to me, not very convincing for an economy like Britain's - which is not, needless to say, driven by Honda factories.

Britannist has some supporters
Default Honda, Yen, British national currency

It is not for this man at Honda to allegedly make these sorts of comments openly about something as important as the British national currency.

He is effectively saying he supports the abolition of the currency of my country. But I bet he wants to keep the Yen as the currency of his nation.

There's nothing particularly novel about a business lobbying the government under whose territory it operates.

There is a difference between lobbying and attempted blackmail.
However, I see this as more of an excuse to close down a plant and move it to a cheap labour zone, he's just setting it up that's all to show that it will be the government's fault and not Honda's decision. It's all about PR and saving face - that's Jap-speak for lying through one's teeth.

OK, he should instruct the Honda dealers to only accept Euros for his cars.

(BTW, I was in a Honda dealership today looking to buy a new small car, but not now. Thats definately one sale down)

What you really want is a Mk5 Astra, they're the business!

Too expensive. I looked at Skoda and Hyundai. The Hyundai seems to have everything I need.

Skoda Fabia is an excellent vehicle, although I much prefer the Octavia.

True, I think you might be correct about Honda's motivations in this instance.

There is another factor in this as well.
If they can show that it has been the 'unreasonable actions' of the government that is forcing them into a move, they won't have to repay any development grants they may have received - and they have all had them!
