I always thought the BNP were on the economic left and extremely authoritarian.

Yes. Extremely authoritarian. That's a left-wing trait, in case you hadn't noticed.

There has never been a right wing authoritarian central government.

Decentralism is one of the most important right wing traits.

See tito's remarks.

What you've been told is wrong. And this deceit stems from the left (who're in control of the brainwashing in universities).

Essentially, the left doesn't want you to know that the BNP is part of the left because that would tarnish their side of the fence. Same reason that they paint Hitler as "right wing" (when in fact he was actually a bit of a leftie).

Those on the left who accuse Blair of being a conservative are simply too stupid to realise that Blair is what happens whenever a leftist government is in power.

All one has to do is think about it a little. Can the aims of the left be realised without authoritarianism occurring? Nope - the very first principle of the left is "the rich guy can't earn as much money as he's able or willing to" and you can't put that principle into practice without authoritarianism.

The "true right" simply doesn't believe in the mechanisms which allow authoritarianism to take hold.

Think of it this way:
Left = collectivism, hive mind, authoritarianism.
Right = individualism, self-reliance, freedom.

In my opinion the most important underlying concepts between the wings is that left wing policies are the government changing culture and right wing is culture changing the government.

Right wing + authoritarian is however possible.
Left wing + libertarian might be a bit tricky.

For many years I have considered the left centre right spectrum an obsolescent and outdated system of political classification. Modern politics is multidimensional and based around multiple axes including nationalist vs internationalist, socially liberal vs socially conservative, economically free market vs a state dominated economy.

A very interesting statement. However, it is important to realise that there are two cultures - a traditional culture and a popular culture.

The Left-Right axis is nothing more than a Nineteenth Century Construct [invented by a Frenchman].

I am gobsmacked that so many on this Forum accept this as an accurate representation of 21st Century politics.
