Then it had better be restricted to anyone living with 100m of the nuclear reactor.

The only reason I think the locals should get a bit of compo, is it WILL affect peoples house prices, due to a decent number of people being scared of nuclear.
That isn't fair.

The forecast grid connectivity of this new generation of nuclear powerplants to Scotland is very low. Which means Scotland will get almost no power from this new generation of nuclear plants.
Personally, I think this is a bad thing - Salmond has been exceedingly stupid. Scotland needs a new nuclear power station and with E.U. regulations coming into the UK in 2011 (if I remember correctly) that are to cut down emissions this could severly cut the UK power supply. |

I agree though, nuclear is the best option, I was just pointing out that the atlantic side is by far and away the best location for wind farms, whether north-west Scotland or the Bristol Channel, for maximum exposure.

TonyG, personally I think wind farms look rather ugly and that tidal generators would be much better and more efficient (since the tide never fails - like the wind). Of course, in many areas the sea beds are productive, but in many areas they are not - such as Aberdeenshire where new tidal generators are planned. Such a system would be much better in a Western Isles, since I think the wind turbines would destroy some of the beautiful scenery up there.

I like the idea of tidal power, hydro-power and solar power. But not wind turbines. The blades of these awful wind turbine eyesores also kill rare birds. Apart from the fact that most wind turbines are not working for at least 70% of the time, much of the small amount of power they do produce is lost in transmission through long cables across the Scottish countryside. Cables being carried by ugly new pylons being placed on previously unspoilt scenic land. |
