Default Plaid may try to form a governement in Wales

Possiblity of a rainbow coaliton to keep Labour out rears its head again.

Default Labour, PLaid Cymru, Conservatives, Wales, coalition

It seems the europhile Liberal Dims might be talking to both sides - to Labour and to the fanatically pro-EU Welsh Nationalists (Plaid Cymru).

Typical.

While I very much want Labour out of power in Wales (as elsewhere) I don't want the europhile Lib Dims or the Plaid Cymru (PC) euro-fanatics in control instead.

If I were a Conservative in Wales, I would not want my party to prop up a minority Lib Dim/PC administration - nor would I want it to be part of a so-called 'rainbow coalition' of Lib Dims/PC and Conservatives.

I am amazed David Cameron has not put his foot down, does he really think it will boost his partys credibility by it behaving like this?

The Lib Dems are as Lady Thatcher once said 'the most unscruplous force in British Politics'

Yes, the europhile Liberal Dims are a nasty bunch.

The other parties in the House of Commons have a very poor opinion of them.

I would not be at all pleased if the Conservatives - whom the Lib Dims hate - enter into any co-operation agreement, pact, coalition or understanding with them in the Welsh Assembly.

There is no doubt that recent events will focus yet more attention on how to solve the English question

However I regret the fact that commited Europhiles like PC and the SNP have or are possibly close to getting their hands on the levers of governement.

So despite remaining commited to the idea of an English Parlaiment I cannot find any joy in my heart at the events of the last few weeks.

Default English Parliament, Scottish Parliament, Plaid Cymru, UK

I absolutely agree with what you have written above RJT.

I also want an English Parliament established (unless the Scottish are prepared to go back to the unitary UK we had before devolution).

But like you I do not want the europhile Scottish so-called National Party (SNP) in power in Scotland; nor its 'sister party' Plaid Cymru in office in Wales.

Hopefully, having the SNP in charge on the Scottish Executive (albeit as a minority administration) will show the people of Scotland just how awful they really are when in power.

Plaid seems to have won support from the majority of its supporters for a Rainbow Coalition.

Default Cameron-led Conservatives, Plaid Cymru, Lib Dims, Wales

Does this mean then that the Cameron-led Conservatives in the Welsh Assembly will be whipped to vote for the election of a europhile Welsh Nationalist (i.e. anti-Unionist Plaid Cymru) to become First Minister of Wales?

Such an occurrence could do damage to the reputation of the Conservatives as a Unionist Party.

It also indicates that there might be a possibility of two strongly europhile parties - Plaid Cymru and the Liberal Dims - agreeing to put in and keep in power (in the Commons) a minority Cameron-led Conservative party after the next General Election. On the condition that it be a very pro-EU and pro-devolution Government  .
